A Unique Opportunity to Shape Gender in Australian Education

Women’s Health Victoria and partners are seeking expert input to the development of a Course in Gender Equity from an intersectional perspective.

The landmark course will be a set of nationally accredited gender equity units intended to be utilised within a broad range of existing vocational education (VET) training packages. It aims to equip workforces across Australia with the skills and knowledge for applying a gender lens in their work and in their workplace.

Recognising that personal experiences of gender are shaped by the intersecting nature of multiple forms of identity – race, religion, ethnicity, ability, age, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, gender identity etc. – we are committed to ensure an intersectional approach is taught across the course.

To this end, we invite you to participate in a forum of selected specialists and practitioners who support an intersectional approach to their work. The feedback collected at the forum will be taken into consideration for the development of the units of competency, curriculum and resources for the Course in Gender Equity.

 Agenda

  • Need for an accredited course in gender equity
  • Project overview and deliverables
  • How a unit of competency for an accredited course is developed
  • Small group work: How do we apply an intersectional lens to gender equity training?
  • Small group work:  Review of two draft units of competency

Light refreshments will be served.

Please RSVP by COB Monday 18 February 2019.

The project partners would like to acknowledge the Victorian Department of Education and Training who is supporting the project under the Workforce Training Innovation Fund (WTIF).
